With its “Lab Trend”, MillMaster TOP offers a comprehensive analysis tool for determining fluctuating yarn properties and their causes. Deviations in the yarn quality produced may result from the following factors:

Here is an example of how spinning mills can use the “Lab Trend” analysis to determine whether their maintenance intervals are correctly scheduled and executed.

The trend shows several increases of events in the classes D1 and F. You can see how the number of errors increases several times, up to 39 events. It is also interesting that these peaks recur at regular intervals of time.

Now it is important to find out what caused this regular pattern and initiate countermeasures. The information provided by “Lab Trend” about changes in the classes D1 and F (Fig. 2) can be localized and progressively narrowed down by selecting delimitations in the online yarn classification table.

The online yarn classification table shows possible causes for an increased number of events in the classes D1 and F:

  • raw material

  • drafting faults

  • floating fibers

  • worn out rings in RF

  • incorrect settings DF

  • very high hairiness

  • piecing in DF

  • incorrect settings and more sliver breaks in SF

  • improper maintenance of spinning machines

  • insufficient house keeping

  • insufficient air conditioning

  • humidity control and return air

This list demonstrates that the reason for the strong increase in the number of events is most likely due to a dirty drawing device of a ring frame. The regularity of the peaks also shows that the cleaning intervals of the spinning frame need to be adjusted.

The "Lab Trend" information not only enables targeted interventions but also helps to achieve consistent yarn quality and allows optimal planning of the maintenance intervals for production machines, which ultimately results in a reduction of maintenance costs.
